DIVA-for-Rhino is a highly optimized daylighting and energy modeling plug-in for Rhinoceros, a NURBS modeling software. The plug-in was initially developed at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University and is distributed by Solemma LLC. DIVA-for-Rhino allows users to carry out a series of environmental performance evaluations of individual buildings and urban landscapes including Radiation Maps, Photorealistic Renderings, Climate-Based Daylighting Metrics, Annual and Individual Time Step Glare Analysis, LEED and CHPS Daylighting Compliance, and Single Thermal Zone Energy and Load Calculations.
DIVA for Rhino comes with an enhanced user interface for Grasshopper. Dropdown parameters allow you to quickly select library materials and schedules. Input and output parameters can be added and removed from components at the click of a button, giving you full control over the complexity of your scripts.
Real-time display of sun paths and shadows. Get annual diagrams for any location, and instantly visualize sun positions and shadows for a series of dates and times.
Generate solar exposure renderings, calculate PV potential, and explore dynamic falsecolor maps in the CAD viewport. DIVA’s radiation map tools allow simulation on an annual, seasonal, or point-in-time basis.
Create physically accurate renderings using Radiance. DIVA exposes the full complement of Radiance raytracing parameters, allowing full control over simulation speed and quality. Generate photorealistic images, luminance falsecolor maps, and illuminance contour overlays.
Assess visual discomfort potential using contrast images and Daylight Glare Probability (DGP). Run a series of time points, or study the entire year using DIVA’s climate-based annual glare maps.
Effortlessly generate camera and time-series animations. DIVA makes it easy to render multiple viewpoints and time steps in one go. Simply select cameras and time inputs, and automatically generate HDR image sequences and animated movies.
DIVA is the only software that can simulate arbitrary numbers of independently operated window shades. This allows accurate modeling of open layouts with multiple window orientations. Using DIVA’s dynamic shading tools, you can quickly calculate and visualize window schedules, percentage of occupied hours shades are open, and resulting annual daylight metrics.
DIVA for Rhino builds on thoroughly validated and tested simulations engines for daylight and building energy use. Both Radiance and Energy Plus are open source and trusted by the industry.
Use Archsim to spatially visualize energy loads. This helps to identify potential energy savings potentials and provides you with design cues to further optimize your building.
Use the built in Energy Plus Airflow Network support to simulate natural ventilation including flows through exterior or inter-zone surfaces. The Airflow Network takes buoyancy effects and wind pressure as well as Wind direction and surface orientation into account. It also simulates bi-directional flow through large openings. It does not simulate air circulation and/or air temperature stratification within a thermal zone.
Archsim automation features allow you to quickly setup and run energy models at large scales. Analyze energy performance beyond the single building and make use of urban synergies.
